World Mountain Forum 2018: Registration Now Open & Call for Contributions

UCA's Mountain Societies Research Institute is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the World Mountain Forum (WMF) 2018, to be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, October 23rd to 26th 2018. To contribute to the discussion, UCA invites the submission of contributions addressing one of four core themes of the Forum. This Forum is the fourth in a series of WMF events and will be hosted by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, with the support from the Government of Switzerland, the University of Central Asia, and the Aga Khan Foundation.

Health Fair at University of Central Asia in Naryn on March 31

The University of Central Asia (UCA) is holding a Health Fair on March 31st 2018 to increase awareness about healthy lifestyles within the Naryn community and UCA. The Health Fair will offer free blood pressure tests to all visitors and a professional fitness trainer will share how to keep a healthy diet. There will be workshops on the importance of good nutrition, master-classes on first aid and making artwork from eco-friendly materials, and an outdoor healthy foods fair. Guests are also invited to get firsthand experience in Kyrgyz traditional sports games, or participate in a chess tournament.

Scholarship Opportunity: Candidate from Central Asia to Pursue a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science Abroad
UCA is seeking to select and sponsor up to 3 qualified Central Asian candidates to pursue a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an accredited university in Canada, the USA or the UK. The candidates will be expected to commence the Master’s degree in September 2017 and complete it within the period stipulated by the admitting university or by May 2019. Upon successful completion of the degree, the candidates will be required to assume a library position at UCA and serve for at least 5 years at one of its campus libraries.

Change the World Around You! - Social Entrepreneurship Contest

The University of Central Asia, Coca-Cola Company,  and Coca Cola Foundation announce the second “Change the World Around You!”competition. We are seeking youth in the Kyrgyz Republic and Kazakhstan with an original idea, who can contribute to solving social problems in their communities. In the Kyrgyz Republic, the six best proposals will receive grants of up to $2,450 to implement their ideas. In Kazakhstan, the top five proposals will receive up to $2,015 to implement their projects.

UCA participates in Tempus-GEM teacher training in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic
From 30 April to 5 May 2012, the University of Central Asia (UCA) supported two teacher trainers – Ruslan Bobov and Farrukh Nazarmovloev – to attend the workshop on  theoretical and practical implications of using geoinformatics systems (GIS) technologies. The training conducted at the Kyrgyz State University of Construction, Transport and Architecture was the third training as part of a Tempus-GEM  grant project.

This one-day Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) workshop will serve as an introduction to RRA methodology through the lens of land and tree tenure.
