From July 16-18, 2010, Khorog Park was alive with musicians, tourists and cultural enthusiasts, during the annual Pamir ‘Roof of the World’ music and cultural festival.  Traditional music and arts performances from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China, and India took place throughout the weekend to give festival-goers gaining a better understand of the diverse cultural heritages of the region.  The festival featured exhibition booths from NGOs, as well as locally-made arts and handicrafts for sale.

Supported by a grant from GTZ, UCA’s School of Professional and Continuing Education(SPCE) and AKHP  arranged for two musical groups to attend and perform at the Festival: one from Khojand, Tajikistan and another, the Ustashakir group from Kyrgyzstan.  On 17 July, SPCE hosted master classes by musicians from the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, China and Afghanistan who introduced their musical instruments and heritages, facilitating lively discussions and providing attendees with a diverse snapshot of the region’s many cultural arts.
