Certificate Programme in Policy Analysis for Afghan Civil Servants
The Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA) of the University of Central Asia (UCA) announces the second cycle of its Certificate Programme in Policy Analysis (CPPA) for Afghan civil servants for new participants. Developed in collaboration with Carleton University’s School of Public Policy and Administration, the CPPA is targeted to civil servants who wish to acquire skills essential to advancing evidence-based policy analysis. Taught by a team of highly qualified experts, the course is the first of its kind in the region.

The ‘Life in Kyrgyzstan’ International Summer School on ‘Impact Evaluation Methods in Central Asia’ is being offered in 2015 to promote the capacity of researchers, practitioners and policy makers in the region to commission, conduct and interpret rigorous impact evaluations and increase their role in evidence­‐based policy making. The School is being offered by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the Institute of Public Policy and Administration of the University of Central Asia, International Security and Development Center (ISDC) and the United Nations University Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-­MERIT).

Research Methods in the Social Sciences, 7 - 13 May 2013 Khorog, Tajikistan
This course grounds students in social science research methods. Focus is on sound and rigorous research design. Students will explore multiple approaches to causal analysis. Students will examine case study, survey, experimental, game theory, and ethnographic research designs and assess the strengths and limitations of these approaches in effort to build theories in social science.

This Project Appraisal (PA) course focuses on practical training in public project appraisal - which is partly an art and partly a science. There are some similarities between public project appraisal and making investment decisions in private business but also some important differences. We will examine both the pure public situation and the blended public-private situation (often referred to as Public-Private Partnership or PPP).

This one-day Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) workshop will serve as an introduction to RRA methodology through the lens of land and tree tenure. The workshop will introduce participants to RRA theories, research tools, and practical training exercises. RRA is a family of methodologies designed to encourage the participation of local communities in the collection and use of information to improve their livelihoods.
