One
University - Three Campuses
Campuses and Facilities
UCA is constructing three campuses in Tekeli, Kazakhstan; Naryn,
the Kyrgyz Republic; and Khorog, Tajikistan; creating one of Central Asia’s largest
and most ambitious construction projects with the expertise of internationally-renown
architects and designers. World-class academic, administrative, residential,
operational, library, cultural and athletic facilities will occupy between
280,000 - 300,000 square meters divided equally across the three campuses,
and will accommodate a residential population of almost 4000 students, faculty
and staff.
The Residential Facilities will create distinct communities of students, faculty
and staff from across the region and the world, facilitating the exchange of
ideas and experiences beyond the classroom. Extending the formal curriculum
and enriching it through informal learning, these residential settings will
create opportunities for students, faculty and staff from different places
to live together, learn from each other and build the decision-making skills,
leadership ability and capacity for ethical judgment and responsible citizenship
that come from living in a complex and diverse community.
UCA Library Facilities will support academic programmes that serve the broad
spectrum of UCA learners and have special collections in Central Asian history,
culture, education and economic development. The three campus libraries will
have complementary collections and cutting-edge technology to link them with
each other and other partner institutions.
UCA Athletics Programmes will consist of organized athletic activities for
a broad range of abilities that strengthen campus communities, build on the
rich tradition of sports in Central Asia and affiliate with regional intercollegiate
competitions.
UCA Parklands will surround each UCA campus, will preserve the natural environment
of the region and can be enjoyed by UCA communities and the general public.
These parks will create unique opportunities for activities related to preservation,
recreation and education in mountain regions and environments. The parks will
also serve as unprecedented live laboratories for research on mountain societies.
World-Class Architects and Designers
Architectural planning for the three UCA campuses is being done by Japanese
architect Arata Isozaki who has won more than 20 architectural prizes in
Japan, the United States, Britain, Italy, and Spain. Since 1963, his firm
has created such major projects as the Olympic stadium in Barcelona, the
Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, and the museum in Takasaki City,
Japan. Mr. Isozaki is one of the premier exponents of a contemporary international
style in architecture, employing a language of design that appeals to modern
people everywhere, while remaining sensitive to the specific needs of environment
and climate.
Site designs for the three UCA campuses and university parks are being developed
by Sasaki Associates of Watertown, USA.
