Zheenbek has conducted research on radio and hydrogeoecology in Lake Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyz Republic since 2006 and has published his findings regionally and internationally. His primary data were collected and analysed using Ion Chromatography, ICP-MS, Scanning Electron Microscope, Gamma Spectrometry, Remote Sensing and GIS tools. His study findings are expected to help surrounding communities on possible risks related to land and water use, help design mitigation measures, provide a study model for other tailing sites and develop monitoring and control policies. His research focuses on the investigation of surface and groundwater contamination issues, radioactive materials of uranium tailing sites and their impact on environmental media and people health. Zheenbek is currently with the American University of Central Asia and has worked as a Research Fellow with UCA’s Mountain Societies Research Institute.
