Economic Interaction of Russia with the countries of Central Asia: Trends and Prospects
The paper provides an overview of economic interrelations between Russia and Central Asia, and Afghanistan. It examines: trade relationships, the commodity structure of trade; and developments during the last decade; existing trade regimes between Russia and countries of the Central Asian region; investment flows; labor migration from Central Asia and its contribution to labor supply in Russia; aid flows from Russia to some of the countries of the region; the role of Russia in human capital development of Central Asian countries; economic policies and strategies of the Russian Federation towards Central Asian countries, as well as the impact of economic relationships with the countries of Central Asia on the economic development of Russia.
