Development Dialogue Addresses Health Emergency Preparedness in Kyrgyzstan
Over 60 high-level government representatives, parliamentarians, development partners, researchers, technical experts on health, and civil society representatives came together to share insights on strengthening health emergency preparedness and readiness to advance health security in the Kyrgyz Republic during a development dialogue on April 9th 2019. The Development Dialogue was co-organised by the United Nations (UN) system in Kyrgyzstan, and the University of Central Asia’s (UCA) Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA). This was the third in a series of six such development dialogues.

Eight Entrepreneurs Win Funding to Start Businesses in Kyrgyzstan
The University of Central Asia’s (UCA) School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) organised an event on March 28th 2019 where 30 alumni of UCA’s entrepreneurship programme pitched business project ideas and competed for financial awards. The eight best pitches received grants from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for further business development. Winning projects include bakery and pastry shops, souvenir production, women’s clothing, and furniture businesses.

Workshop on Enhancing Citizen Engagement with Open Government Data
The University of Central Asia’s Civil Society Initiative (CSI) organised a workshop on “Citizen Engagement with Open Government Data” on March 27-30 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The event was aimed at raising civil society organisations’ awareness of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), and strengthening the capacity of participants’ to monitor the implementation of the "Achyk Okmot" National Action Plan for 2018-2020 to build an Open Government in Kyrgyzstan.

Predicting Climate Change in Kyrgyzstan
The University of Central Asia's Mountain Societies Research Institute ( held a Public Lecture in Bishkek on the “Impact Assessment of Grazing and Climatic Factors on Vegetation in Kyrgyzstan” in March 2019. Delivered by Dr. Maksim Kulikov, he presented outputs of his research on an assessment of the interactions between soil, vegetation and climatic factors, quantifying them to better predict climate change scenarios.

Undergraduate students at the University of Central Asia (UCA) organised the first TEDxUCA event in Khorog, Tajikistan with the theme “Encounters at the Edge”, gathering over 100 guests. Five speakers from different backgrounds discussed their experiences of how they have “stood on edge” of what is known and comfortable, and then to develop and grow as individuals within the global society.

Afghan Civil Servants Graduate from University of Central Asia
The University of Central Asia (UCA) celebrated the achievements of 22 Afghan civil servants who were awarded an Executive Masters in Economic Policy (EMEP) at a ceremony in Kabul, Afghanistan on 10 March 2019. Over 40% of graduates are women. The EMEP programme was delivered by the UCA’s Institute of Public Policy and Administration (IPPA), based in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, which is part of the Graduate School of Development.

University of Central Asia Architect Wins Pritzker Prize
Arata Isozaki, the renouned Japanese architect, and designer of the master plan of the University of Central Asia (UCA), has won the coveted Pritzker Architecture Prize for 2019. He is the 46th Pritzker laureate, and the prize of $100,000 will be awarded at an official ceremony in May at the Chateau de Versailles in France.
